Generally, a Florida notary cannot notarize a signature on a document that is incomplete or blank.

Florida law specifically addresses incomplete or blank documents and prohibits a notary from notarizing a signature when the notary knows the document is incomplete or blank in certain circumstances.

What should you do before your appointment?

Before your mobile notary arrives, review your documents and make sure the portions you are responsible for completing have been filled out.

There is an important exception to remember: don't fill in information that you aren't authorized to provide simply because a space is blank.

Some documents contain sections that are intentionally completed by another person, an attorney, a lender, a title company, a government agency, or another organization.

If you're unsure what belongs in a blank space, contact the person or organization that provided the document and ask for guidance.

Your notary can explain the notarization process and perform the appropriate notarial act, but a notary cannot provide legal advice or tell you what information belongs in your document.
