Notary Tip Tuesday: Is Everyone Who Needs to Sign Ready?
When you're arranging a notarization, it's easy to focus on the document itself. But there's another important detail to consider: who needs to sign, and when will they be available?
A little planning before your appointment can help avoid unnecessary delays and make the process smoother for everyone involved.
Who Needs to Sign the Document?
Before scheduling, review the document to identify the people whose signatures need to be notarized.
If more than one person needs to sign, let your notary know when making your appointment. This is especially helpful when the signers have different schedules or are located in different places.
Does Everyone Have to Be Present at the Same Appointment?
Not necessarily. The arrangements depend on the document and the requirements of the receiving organization.
For each signature being notarized, the signer must personally appear before the notary at the time of that notarization, as required by Florida law.
If two signers are in different locations, separate appointments may be possible in some circumstances. However, before proceeding, confirm that the document and receiving organization permit the arrangement. Some documents or transactions have additional requirements.
What Should You Tell Your Mobile Notary?
When scheduling, let your notary know:
How many people need their signatures notarized
Whether everyone will be at the same location
Whether the signers have different availability
Whether the document specifies witnesses or other requirements
Whether there is a deadline for completing the paperwork
These details help your notary understand the appointment and discuss appropriate scheduling options.
