Acknowledgment vs. Jurat: What’s the Difference?

Here's something many people don't realize: your notary isn't there to decide what legal notarization your document needs.

An acknowledgment and a jurat serve different purposes, so if your document doesn't clearly indicate which is required, it's important to get that direction from the document preparer, receiving agency, or an attorney.

Acknowledgment vs Jurat:

🔹 Acknowledgment: The signer acknowledges that they signed the document willingly.

🔹 Jurat: The signer signs in the presence of the notary and takes an oath or affirmation regarding the truthfulness of the document.
