Behind the Stamp: What Happens After Your Florida Wedding Ceremony?

The ceremony is over. The photos are taken. The couple has said “I do.” 💍

So what happens next?

There is still an important piece of paperwork to take care of.

After officiating a beautiful wedding Friday, I made a trip to the Bay County Courthouse to return the completed marriage license.

The officiant has paperwork responsibilities, too.

In Florida, the person who solemnizes the marriage must complete the certificate on the marriage license and transmit it to the office of the county court judge or clerk of the circuit court from which the license was issued within 10 days after solemnizing the marriage.

That means the officiant's role doesn't necessarily end when the ceremony does.
