“Can You Notarize This?” What to Know Before Your Mobile Notary Appointment
What to Know Before Your Mobile Notary Appointment.
“Can You Notarize This?”
It's a question I hear often:
“I have this document that needs to be notarized. Can you do it?”
The answer may be yes, but before scheduling the appointment, there are a few details worth discussing.
Every document and signing situation can be different, so knowing a little more about the appointment helps me arrive prepared.
What Do You Need Notarized?
The first thing I may ask is what type of document you need notarized.
You don't need to be a notary expert to schedule an appointment. Simply letting me know what type of document you're working with can help me understand what to expect.
If the document already contains a notarial certificate, that's helpful information as well.
If you aren't sure what the document requires, the appropriate document preparer, attorney, title company, or receiving organization may need to provide those instructions. A notary cannot provide legal advice or determine which legal document or notarial certificate you need.
How Many People Are Signing?
I'll also want to know how many people will be signing.
Each signer who needs a notarial act must be present for the notarization, and identification requirements apply to the individual signer.
Knowing how many signers are involved also helps with appointment planning.
Does Your Document Require Witnesses?
This is an important question to consider before your appointment.
Some documents or transactions may require witnesses in addition to the notary.
If your document requires a witness, ask us when you schedule your appointment.
Depending on the circumstances and the requirements of the document, Magnolia Signature Services may be able to provide a witness for you.
The important thing is to let us know ahead of time rather than discovering at the appointment that additional people are needed.
If the document preparer or receiving organization has specific witness requirements, those requirements should be confirmed before the appointment.
Where Will We Meet?
Because Magnolia Signature Services is a mobile notary service, I'll also need to know where the appointment will take place.
Whether you're at home, at work, in a healthcare facility, or another agreed location, providing the location details when scheduling helps me plan accordingly.
That's the convenience of mobile notarization:
You don't have to go looking for the notary office. I come to you.
A Little Information Goes a Long Way
When someone calls and asks, “Can you notarize this?”, I don't expect them to know everything about the notarization process. That's why I ask questions.
The goal isn't to make the process complicated. It's to make sure I understand the appointment, know what to bring, and arrive prepared for the signing.
So if you're not sure what you'll need, ask before you book.
And if you need a witness, tell us! We'll let you know whether we may be able to help with that part of your appointment.
